FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT
_________________________
1 John 1:5-7 (NRSV)
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

The psalmist wrote, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path."
- Psalm 119:105 (NIV)

ONE night during a span of harsh winter weather with snow and strong winds, I had almost finished my nightly shower when the power went out. In total darkness, I felt my way through the process of drying off and finding clothes to put on. I was relieved to discover that my knowing the location of each item beforehand enabled me to "see" and find what I needed - even in the dark.
At times the lights go out in our daily walk through life, when darkness enshrouds our way and we lose direction. But knowing that our perfect Helper is near, we are able through faith and prayer to focus on God's holiness, to follow God's light, and to once again make our way toward God's will and purpose.
Prayer: Our holy Father, thank you for your many blessings and watchful care over us. Help us in dark times to trust you to take the lead as we pray, "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."*
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Even darkness is not dark to those who walk with God.
